In a situation where people live or work closely together, the risk of acquiring infection from others and the spreading of it to others is high, unless steps are taken to reduce the risks.
Residents in care homes are in close contact with each other. They share facilities such as bathrooms, toilets and living accommodation, whilst also sharing the same care staff.
Residents are at risk of acquiring Infections which can be serious and at times life threatening to an individual, therefore high standards of Infection Prevention and Control are essential at all times.
To help prevent the spread of infections within the care home setting it is important for all members of staff to practice and maintain high standards of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). Some of the ways this can be achieved is by staff receiving regular IPC education and easy access to information and guidance.
The information available on this website is designed to help and support care home staff to maintain effective standards of Infection Prevention and Control.
